Kindergarten Admissions

The Kindergarten visit to campus consists of a developmental screening with members of our Admissions Team. Students will be given enjoyable tasks and activities during their visit, and will be assessed on both their academic and social development and readiness for Kindergarten.

Our assessment process is designed to be comfortable and not intimidating for the students, while providing our Admissions Team an opportunity to assess each student’s ability and readiness to enter our Kindergarten program.

While we do require that applicants for kindergarten turn 5 years old by September 1, 2008, we also understand that chronological age is not the only, or best, indicator of developmental readiness. Thus, we might recommend that some children who meet the age cut-off wait a year before beginning our Kindergarten program.

Developmental readiness is based on measuring cognitive and social maturity, not an academic achievement or intelligence test. Research has shown that children mature at varying paces, and not all children are ready for the same challenges and activities at the same age. Similarly, we can not rush readiness—it is part of a child’s intrinsic nature. For more information on readiness, please visit the following site: http://www.kindergartenreadiness.net/html/articles.html.
