Mathematics

The math program at Sea Crest School helps students at all grade levels become proficient in the five strands: number sense; algebra and functions; measurement and geometry; statistics, data analysis, and probability; and mathematical reasoning.

The lessons use a variety of manipulative material to introduce and reinforce concepts. Students are given real-life problems in which they must seek out necessary data and select appropriate problem-solving strategies; and they are exposed to mathematical games and puzzles to further stimulate the creative process. All children are given challenges which match their abilities as they develop the "mathematical power" to meet current and future challenges.

Sea Crest uses the Saxon Math Series, which teaches math in a traditional manner. Concepts are incrementally developed and continually practiced throughout the year. This balanced, integrated mathematics program includes the continual development of whole-number concepts, whole-number computation, mental math, problem solving, patterns and functions, measurements, geometry, fractions, decimals, statistics, and probability.
