Music

The music program at Sea Crest gives students the opportunity to develop their talents and prepare for lifelong participation in the performing arts. Music of many styles, cultures and time periods are used throughout the curriculum. Children are also encouraged to improvise and create their own music.

The program challenges students’ gross and fine motor skills, visual and aural memory, and intellectual and creative understanding as they experience active music making in the form of speech, song, instrument playing, and movement.

Students in grades K–4 meet twice a week for 30 minutes, and are trained in both Orff and Kodaly methods.

Students from grades 2–5 grade may also choose to participate in the Sea Crest Chorus, an after-school program that meets twice a week and performs at various school events.

5th grade students are introduced to beginning band, and learn to read music, play an instrument, and perform at various school functions.

Music is an elective for middle school students. Those choosing music will have the opportunity to study and learn an instrument, and to participate in a performing band (rock, jazz or orchestra).

As an extracurricular activity, middle school students may also participate in a chorus program.
