Physical Education

The philosophy of the Sea Crest School Physical Education Department is that every student have the opportunity to grow in physical ability, social skills, and emotional wellness, to learn nutritional basics, and be inspired to practice healthy habits lifelong.

Sea Crest seeks to provide a solid foundation for every student in the Physical Education program. In the primary grades (Kindergarten, grades 1 and 2), we focus on gross-motor-skill development such as hopping, skipping, and balancing, and, with the help of the school’s Guiding Principles, defining and reinforcing acceptable social standards.

In the formative years (grades 3, 4, and 5), we concentrate on sport-specific skill sets. Students gain confidence in their ability to participate in mainstream sports, develop individual sportsmanship and learn to compete positively through games designed specifically for these tasks.  This period of development also gives students the opportunity to resolve conflicts peacefully and work cooperatively.

In Middle School (grades 6, 7 and 8), we focus on the mastery of all previously learned physical and social skills, while introducing curricula appropriate for the adolescent student. Nutritional science is incorporated at this time, and fitness training measured through the presidential fitness standards testing. We also introduce non-traditional sports so that students have a variety of activities in which they may choose to participate throughout their lives.
