Social Studies

The Social Studies curriculum at Sea Crest School has these
major goals—to promote cultural understanding and knowledge, foster democratic understanding and civic values, to develop skills and encourage social participation.

These goals are the basis of the Social Studies curriculum at all grade levels. They are first introduced in the primary grades, in simple terms that young children understand, and then regularly reappear in succeeding years, each time deepened, enriched and extended by incorporating lessons from history, sociology, economics, geography and political science. They are further illuminated with the study of
our national identity, constitutional heritage, civic values and rights and responsibilities.

Basic study skills, critical thinking skills and participation skills essential for effective citizenship are emphasized throughout.
